Touch A Truck 2010

The Edmond MOMS Club held the 3rd annual Touch A Truck on May 15th. The last two years it has been my "baby" and I had a lot of responsibilities in planning it. This year though since we moved and so many other moms volunteered to plan it I only worked a 1 hour shift. It was a little weird and sad for me to not be so involved but for the first time I actually got to walk around and look at the trucks. It was a great family day and Jensen loved seeing and sitting in all the trucks. The event was a HUGE success again with about 2000 people attending which raised $6500 for the food for kids program. Everyone is already excited for next year

Jensen want to be a mailman when he grows up so this was really neat for him!

Jeff wants to be a storm chaser when he grows up so he liked seeing Jensen get in this one. I think Jeff really wanted his picture taken with chaser Val Castor but he was too shy!

He got to honk the big horn on the semi, Jorden was not thrilled about that one

Bye Bye Duckies

Sadly, our ducks left us last Wednesday. I knew the hatching time was getting close so I was hoping we would get at least a glimps of the baby ducks. Early Wednesday morning I looked out the window at the flower bed and the mommy was sitting there like usual but just a few hours later she was gone and all that was there was part of one empty shell. There were 7 eggs so where are the other shells, do they eat them? I don't know if they all walked to a pond or if they didn't make it or what. Later that afternoon we drove over to a pond in the neighborhood to see if we could see them. We did see two ducks with 4 babies but I don't know if that was a different family or not. I saw a duck in our next door neighbors yard and got excited that maybe they were all over there but when I got closer I realized it was another mommy sitting on a nest. I guess flowerbeds make good nests. So. I feel a little used since she used our flowerbed but didn't let us see the babies! :) It was really cool while it lasted though

What was left in the nest

These were the ducks we saw later that day but we have no idea if those are "our"ducks

OH by the way, right before the ducks left. we had a HUGE swarm of bees come to live in our tree in the front yard. It was crazy seeing a big solid ball of bees, 100's of them.....creepy. Jeff looked it up and it said that sometimes they swarm in a place for a few days before finding a permanent home. We hoped our tree wasn't the permanent home and just waited. Sure enough, a few days later they all just left. It was so weird because I went out at about 2:30pm and they were there but at 3:30pm when Jeff came home they were all gone.

Solid mass of bees YIKES!

My neighbor across the street asked what the deal is with our house and all the wildlife and I said that I think Jeff is Dr. Dolittle!

Jorden in the Cart

Jorden is officially out of the infant carrier so it's a whole new world for us. He's in a real carseat now and when we go places he gets to sit up like a big boy. He sat in the shopping cart at the Walmart neighborhood market for the first time recently so that was fun. Jensen got a kick out of riding with him. I miss the infant carrier because I could just sit him down anywhere but now I have to hold him, take the stroller or use the sling or a cart. Naptime is harder now too since he can't just go to sleep in the carrier. We'll get used to it soon though I'm sure.

My two monkeys!
People looked at me funny for taking pictures of my kids in Walmart but I don't care, this was a big deal HA!

Here's Jensen at 5 months in the cart at where else....Walmart, my second home!

Frisbee Golf Mania

Jeff tends to get interested in an activity and when he does he becomes pretty obsessed. It usually involves him spending a LOT of time and money on it which always annoys me greatly. Some examples in the past have been lowriders, RC cars, golf, dj music, golden tee and many more I'm forgetting. This time it's frisbee golf. It case you haven't heard of it, it's a game where you throw frisbees at a basket from far away for 18 holes like golf. Jeff has played off and on a little since he was a teen. I don't know what sparked his interest again but that seems to all he thinks about lately. He bought a new bag that holds at least 20 different frisbees (you have to have a putter and a driver etc I guess!) and paid $143 to join the official disc golf association. But hey it included the official rule book and a frisbee woohoo (sarcasm)! I can't say I was happy about that! What's worse is, a guy at work has become obsessed too so they play at lunch, after work and some days both. He checks wind speeds all the time and researches different courses. When they went out of town on business last week they even played in Texas a bunch. I guess he gets some excersise though. Jeff doesn't want to miss out on family time on the weekend so he's always asking me to go play as a family and I am not interested at all. One weekend he even tried to get me to take the kids an hour and a half away to some course in who knows where Oklahoma.....not happening! I did try it one nice sunny afternoon when we all went and it was no fun since I had to push Jorden in the stroller up and down grassy/rocky hills and across a creek. I didn't see the fun in throwing the frisbee either since I don't get it anywhere near the hole. He and Jensen went to play last weekend though so that was good since they got to spend one on one time and I got to get some work done at home. Jensen seems to really enjoy it. Sooo maybe when it gets too hot to play everyday this will end but then he might get obsessed with something else worse! Ok so that's my vent for the day about frisbee golf!

Lots of Firsts

Jorden is getting big so fast and he has had lots of firsts lately...... It's a whole new world for him now that he can sit up by himself. He loves to sit on the floor and play with toys and Jensen has started playing toys with him too which is super cute. We put the boppy pillow around him in case he falls over. Unlike Weebles, he does fall down :)

We started Jorden on solid foods and so far he's had rice cereal, carrots, squash, sweet potatoes, peas, green beans, and bananas. He hasn't had a negative or overly positive reaction to any of them, just kind of eats and goes on
Jorden can sit in a highchair now when we go out and he likes it except he has figured out that food is good so he gets mad if he doesn't get any. I bought him some things called rice rusks that are for his age and he munches on them. I love using our OU highchair/cart cover I had with Jensen, it really comes in handy

We went to eat wings and Jeff thought if was funny to give him a wing to pretend like he ate it
We are moving Jorden out of the infant carrier since he is over the length limit on it. Even though it's heavy, I'm not ready for him to be out since it's so convenient but I guess it's time. He really likes sitting in the stroller facing forward and if I stop he rocks back and forth like he's saying come on, lets go!

He found his feet and it's so cute when he grabs his toes

Food Face
I gave Jorden a sippy cup for the first time since he likes to grab our cups. He doesn't know how to use it yet but it won't be long

Ducks too?

A few weeks ago I came out my front door and I heard loud flapping and it sounded like a condor had been on my porch! In the field next to us there was a male and female duck walking around. Later that day, we found a nest in my flower bed right by the front door and it had two eggs in it. We thought that was really neat. The next day there were three, the next four and so on until finally there were seven eggs and the female duck was sitting on them. By then, she had gotten used to us walking by and now she just sits there while we look at her. I even pulled weeds in the flower bed and she didn't move. Wiki says ducks take about 28 days to hatch and it seems like it's been about that long so we hope that we get so see some baby ducklings soon. There isn't a pond very close by so when they do hatch we worry they will have a long walk. We are really excited though to see such an unusual thing!

Holy Snake EEEK!

Since there is a farm right behind us, I knew we would have critters. One evening I came home and Jeff was just about to let a snake go out back.....he found it in my KITCHEN!!! It was only about 12inches long and I'm not usually afraid of snakes but he thought of one slithering around in my house really creeps me out! We think it may have gotten in through the garage since we had been bringing stuff in and out. We took pictures and Jeff looked it up on line and it might be a rat snake but my snake expert friend said it looks like a python. My friend Crystal told me she is never coming to my house again because I didn't kill it boo! I'm trying to be better about shutting hte door now
