January good times

Welcome to 2010! Can you believe it has been 10yrs since everyone was freaking out about Y2K? :-) The holidays seem like they came and went like a flash. There was so much to do and then poof, it was over. We didn't do much on New Year's Eve this year since we have a new baby. My friend had her little boy's 1st birthday party on that evening and that was fun then we came home and went to bed. I was in bed by 10pm which is kind of lame but I value my sleep these days! We had some good family time at the Omniplex on New Year's day. We love it there and can spend all day looking at all the cool science stuff and playing. Our membership really comes in handy. After that, we went along with his parent's, to Jeff's brother's house to play Wii and eat BBQ. It was great family time.

We got Jensen Sponge Bob jammies for xmas and he wants to wear them everyday. By the way, I like Sponge Bob but it's not educational so Jensen usually only gets to watch it with Daddy every once in a while. I don't like for him to watch too much tv but if he does I at least want him to get something out of it.
I am so excited that you can drive a Segways at the Omniplex and even little kids get to. I have loved these things since I first rode one at Disneyland in 2004. It would be so cool to have one and ride around all the time on it!

Jeff took 2 days off last week since he has vacation time and they are in between busy holidays. We were thinking about driving to Texas to go to Ikea and stay overnight but since our niece or nephew will be born any day, I didn't want to go too far. Thursday Jensen went to school then we took him to Chuck E. Cheese to play. There were only a few people there since it was the middle of a weekday so we got to play the games and had a great time getting 490 tickets. After that, we went to visit Jeff's Grandma Cassie then to dinner at yummy Los Tacos. We had Braum's ice cream on the way home for desert too sheesh! Friday, we got up and went to eat at a teeny tiny diner called Nic's. A coworker of mine took me there years ago and they have huge delicious onion burgers but I had never been there for breakfast. It's a crazy busy place especially since the food channel did a story on it on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives but it wasn't busy at all for breakfast.


Notice a trend of eating out? Yeah Jeff tends to talk me into eating really bad food so I need to get a handle on that or the baby weight is never going to come off! I did work out this week for the first time since I was 3 months pregnant so I hope to do more of that.


After breakfast, we went to Norman to the Sam Noble Natural History Museum. I had taken students there a long time ago and remember it being a little boring but I thought Jensen might like to see the dinosaur bones. He has been getting more interested in dinosaurs lately. Jeff and I were surprised that he seemed to like all of it. He was impressed by the dinosaurs but also really took his time looking at all the exhibits about animals, forests, caves, and pioneers. He made us go in the cave exhibit 3 different times so I think that was his favorite. I was surpised too at how good he was at guessing which animal belonged to the skins they had on display.

The museum had a discovery room with a dinosaur bone dig where you have to wear goggles and dig the dirt away from the bones.

Saturday Jeff was still itching to get out of town and he had been researching places in OK to go and he decided we should go to Lawton to sight see. I was a little sceptical since it was chilly and rainy and we didn't really know what was there. It took us about an hour to get to a town next to Lawton called Medicine Park. They have a quaint little tourist area along a river with different shops and and bridges. Of course its January so there was not a lot going on but we had lunch then Jeff and Jensen walked along the water and over the bridges near the waterfall. I had to stay behind to feed Jorden but they had a good time. We wanted to stop at a well known candy and ice cream shop but were sad they were closed. Next, we went to the Wichita Mountains National Wildlife Refuge where they have mountains and free roaming buffalo and long horns. We drove up Mount Scott which is about 2,500ft tall and it had a great view. It was foggy and chilly but the sun came out right before we left and it warmed up some. We looked at the view then Jeff took Jensen to climb on some rocks that were at the very peak. He had been there for a college class years ago and showed Jensen some medallions that were embedded in the rock to mark the height of the mountain. Jensen absolutely loved climbing up the rocks and was a little too brave at times but it made my heart smile to see them having such a great time. I climbed around some but mostly stayed with Jorden who was in the stroller. Jensen was busy being a billy goat and didn't want to leave. We came down the mountain and went to the visitor's center which was new and very nice. They had lots of hands-on exhibits about the wildlife. There was a dark room that had recordings of different nocturnal animals and you had to guess the animal. Jensen got a kick out of that and went in twice.

We have really enjoyed having so much family time lately. The last year and a half was filled with never ending home improvement projects so we never felt like we had time to do anything fun. We still have lots to do on the new house but we are not in any hurry so we are living life again.

I told Jeff that while I like all this family time, I miss my friends! After we got home from Lawton I was able to meet some of my girlfriends in Norman at the Mont. It was a good turnout with about 10 of us being able to make it. Since Jorden is sleeping through the night now, I can do stuff again and it feels so good to join the land of the living! Jeff is great too about taking good care of both boys and getting them to bed easily..

Yippee for sleep!!

We moved Jorden to his own room a few weeks ago and it would have been sooner but.....

1. I was waiting for him to go more than 4hrs between feedings
2. We hadn't gotten around to setting up his crib.
3. We have a brand new baby monitor but Jensen lost the base to it somewhere in the house

Well we finally got the crib set up and we borrowed a monitor until we could find ours. Right away he started going longer between feedings. First it was five hours, then six hours then less than a week later he went 11hrs WOOHOO!! I guess being in his own room really helped and I was thrilled to have some much needed sleep after 2.5 months of only getting 2 or 3 hours at a time. I hoped it wasn't a fluke but its been a week now and he has been sleeping from about 8pm to 7am every night.

He even got to spend the night at Mimi's house last weekend. Jeff and I went to his work holiday party and left the kids with Mimi with the plan to pick Jorden up after. He was alseep when we got out though and there was no sense in waking the whole house so we left him there. He ended up sleeping until about 6:30am and Mimi fed him a bottle when he woke up. We are so proud of him for being a big boy!

So, I've been much more rested this week and feel like I have my life back. I even got to go to Mom's night out with the new MOMS Club I joined and I didn't have to worry since Jeff put the boys to bed. Oh and we found the monitor in a very weird place just like I figured would happen!

Christmas 2009

Despite the blizzard, we had a great Christmas. On Christmas Eve we went to Jeff's parent's house to exchange gifts with them and his brother Jerry's family. Santa came and brought Jorden a toy laptop (for later of course) and Jensen got a slot car track that he asked for. He also got a snow cone maker, dinosaur, light saber, and lots of candy in his stocking.

We were supposed to go to Aunt Janet and Uncle Terry's house in Yukon on Christmas day but it was too snowy so we waiting until Sunday. The girls wore their Christmas outfits that had a matching doll outfit. We had a big meal and exchanged gifts. A few years ago we started drawing names and we drew cousin Travis and Jamie. We also had plans to get together with Jeff's mom's family for dirty Santa but it was cancelled due to the weather and hasn't been rescheduled yet.

Oklahoma Blizzard 2009

The Oklahoma weather people tend to over exaggerate so when they said we might get a bunch of snow, we only half took it seriously. I was up feeding Jorden though early Thursday morning and I have never heard the wind blow so hard...it sounded like a tornado. By noon on Christmas Eve it started sleeting and snowing and it was blowing at about 60 miles an hour. It did that all day and all night and by the time it was done we had 14 inches! This is very rare for OK

We braved the blizzard to go the 2 miles to Jeff's parent's house on Christmas Eve. My jeep did pretty well in the snow but people driving cars and non 4-wheel drive vehicles were getting stuck all over the place. We were almost home and came around the corner about 2 houses down when we hit a huge snow drift that got us stuck. Jeff tried for a while to get us out but had no luck and Jorden was screaming so the kids and I got out and walked the rest of the way home. It was a little difficult because I had to lug the carrier through the knee deep snow while I helped Jensen not sink since it was up to his waist. We got home though and warmed up while Jeff spent 2 hours trying to get the jeep out with no hat or gloves on. All of our winter stuff and snow shovel we never use are still in storage in Edmond. Finally, with the help of some neighbors they got it out.

It is a rare thing to have so much snow and a white Christmas but by morning the sun was out but still very cold. From the inside we could see that our back door had snow on it but when we opened it there was a snow drift that was just stuck there like a wall taller than Jensen. It was a crazy sight

I set Jorden up on the couch and Jeff laughed and said all he needed was the remote and chocolate milk since we had a funny pic of Jensen like that. I just happened to have some chocolate milk in the fridge so we recreated it.

We went to the Omniplex with the girls one day then stopped by Mimi's work to say hi. She gave Jensen a candy cane and he passed out on the way home right in the middle of eating it. He drooled everywhere and made a sticky mess

I rollled over 100,000 miles on Beep Beep da Jeep so that's a big milestone. It's been a great car and I hope it continues to be good to me until we can get something else

Jensen took a picture of Mommy and Jorden. I got my hair cut and it ended up shorter than I had planned yikes! That's nothing new though, I'm never happy with it :-)

Jorden had his 2 month checkup and he is big and healthy. He weighed 13lbs 7oz and we suspect most of it is in his cheeks! Jensen weighed 13lbs. 9oz at this age so he's right on track with big brother. He had a full head of hair at birth but a lot of it has fallen out so he has the little old man look

Jorden has really started smiling and cooing which is so precious to see. Of course there's the famous Jones tongue again!

Thanksgiving 2009

It was really nice this year on Thanksgiving to not have to drive across town. We went to my mom's house for lunch and she cooked up all my favorite Thanksgiving dishes as well as my two favorite deserts, cherry cheesecake and brownies YUM! Afterward, we were able to go home for a short while since it is so close then we went to Jeff's aunt and uncle's house in Yukon to be with his family. They had lots of yummy food too and the kids had fun playing.

Grandma bought him a precious Thanksgiving outfit that we thought would be way to big but it fit perfectly. We didn't notice until we put him in the carseat that it says "little turkey" on the feet, too cute!

The day after Thanksgiving we went to storage and got our Christmas decorations then put up the tree that evening. Jensen helped with the star

I bought an ornament Jensen's first xmas that had a family of 3 penguins with our names on it. I remember last Christmas looking at it made my heart break because I felt like we were missing one and we weren't having any luck adding to our family. What a difference a year makes though! I bought our new ornament the other day with our family of 4 on it!
